I’m really not trying to make you jealous

March 10, 2012

From our stay in the village

Here in Solomons, the sun rises about 6:30AM and sets about 6:30PM. Dawn and dusk are maybe only 30 minutes long, so 8PM is just as dark as midnight. That surprised me at first because I would wake up in the middle of the night and have no idea what time it was.

We woke up around 6 most mornings, and everyone read or did something quietly for awhile. I would read with a flashlight inside, and then when it got light outside I sat on the porch and read. From the Choate’s porch in the village, the sunrise is partly visible.

Several mornings I walked about three minutes to the beach for a better, breathtaking view. Our apartment in the capital gives a decent view of the sunrise over the ocean, but nothing like this. Here are a few pictures of the beauty God lets us enjoy.

Here’s a sunset in the village. Sunsets in our apartment in the capital are mostly blocked by trees and a small mountain ridge.

God wouldn’t have to make sunrises.
