a passport and plane tickets!

July 17, 2012

In June, we took M to the post office and applied for his passport. (When he’s 5 years old, his passport photo will still be of him as a one-month-old.) The government website says to expect 4 to 6 weeks to get a passport, but his arrived in the mail in just 2 1/2 weeks! Praise God for this quick turnaround on all of Micah’s paperwork so far!  Now his final permit is being processed in the Solomons. John, Little D, and I don’t need any new paperwork to return to the Solomons.

Now that we have his passport, we’ve bought plane tickets to return to the Solomons! On Sunday, September 16, we’ll fly from Des Moines to Chicago to Los Angeles. Then we fly over the Pacific from LA to Fiji, then to Vanuatu, and land in the Solomon Islands on September 18 local time. It’s the same route we took last time we went to and from the Solomons; here’s a map. Praise God that we found tickets at a decent price!

We got a lot of things packed in Iowa and are now spending time with John’s family in Michigan. We’re speaking at churches here and are soaking up family time. Please pray that we’ll encourage people at the churches we visit. Yesterday we enjoyed a walk after supper with John’s parents and sister. I keep appreciating everyday things like that more and more. We praise God for our supportive, loving families.
