we weren’t affected by today’s tsunami

February 6, 2013

A magnitude 8.0 earthquake hit the Solomons earlier today. We’ve gotten a few emails asking if we’re okay. I’ve had bad luck connecting to facebook this week so can’t update that.

We didn’t feel the earthquake or aftershocks, and the capital is unaffected by the tsunami. It was far on the eastern part of the country (over 350 miles from where we’re living currently), and there was a tsunami warning for the country and some neighboring ones. The wave that hit the capital here was about only 3 inches (8 cm) high. People in the eastern part of the country are affected, so pray for them.
