Christmas keeps going

January 10, 2015

“Grandma, let’s do Christmasy things!”  Little D said that phrase several times a day for the past month. He loved to help my mom put up decorations. She worked pretty hard to keep finding “Christmasy things” to do with him.

The Christmas tree is down now, and we’re almost done doing Christmasy things by now. Little D is still playing with several strings of lights. He carries them from room to room, plugs them in, turns off the room light, and admires the lights. The best part for him is what he calls the “Heaven Above Star,” the tree topper that also lights up. He finds different places to set up the star. Right now it’s standing up in one of his tennis shoes.

Candy and games have also been major parts of their Christmas season. The “candlelight” Christmas Eve service we attended had glow sticks instead of candles. The glow sticks are still in our freezer for next time they have a “glow stick party” in the basement. Both boys enjoyed the candy canes they received at church.

Little D has gotten a whole lot of joy out of this Christmas season. He understands some of the meaning behind Christmas, and his lunch time prayers sometimes include, “Thank you Jesus that we get to celebrate Christmas and remember you being born.”

I like that the boys still think of it as being Christmas and aren’t in a hurry to move on to whatever comes next.

Merry Christmas!
