Sailing to the village

July 9, 2015

We’re leaving to go out to Kolombangara.  We’ll leave Friday morning on a boat headed out west.  A family headed to PNG to support Bible translation work there sailed their sailboat from the US all the way across the Pacific.  We’ll join them for a small part of their journey as they head west.  Please pray for smooth seas and no seasickness as well as favorable winds for sailing.  It will take several days to sail from Honiara to Kolombangara.

When we get to Kolombangara we’ll join a centenary for one of the church denominations on the island.  Pray that God would use it as a good time to celebrate what He has done over the past 100 years and share with many people about the Bible translation work.  Pray for more people to get involved in the work as a result of this time.

As we go out to the village, we’ll have very limited access to e-mail.  We do plan to still be able to check e-mail, but we won’t be able to download large attachments.

Please pray for our adjustment to life in the village. There are many challenges to living in remote, rustic conditions, but pray that God would use this time to teach us humility and draw us into relationship with the people in the village. Pray for us to learn the language and culture quickly, and for strong friendships.
