sad news

While we were on our way to Little M’s appointment yesterday, we got a sad phone call from my dad.  My grandpa passed away suddenly yesterday morning.  He was 82 and had been in remarkably good health.  We’re mourning the loss for us, for all of our relatives, and for those who knew him.  He was a generous, funny, hardworking man who cared well for Grandma and always had time to listen to our stories and laugh with our kids.

We had been planning to go to Michigan next weekend and see him and the rest of my grandparents.  Instead, we’re going to Michigan tomorrow. The funeral will be Friday.

When we left for the Solomons in 2012 we left knowing that it was possible that that was the last time we would get to see some of my grandparents, and that we wouldn’t be able to return for funerals if they did occur. Not an easy thing to think about, but an unfortunate and difficult reality of living on the other side of the globe. Just last week Lori was telling someone about how all 4 of my grandparents were still alive and we were so excited to see them when we went to Michigan. It’s hard to have been this close to seeing my grandpa again.

    John,

Sorry to hear of your loss. Your grandpa sounds like a really fine man. I pray for you as you are becoming a man in his footsteps in the new generation, for your kids and grandkids.

    Blessings and peace,

    John in Ames

I’m grieving with you all, dear ones, but thankful with you too for the precious memories your grandpa left behind for you, your family and all who knew him. Praying for safety in travel for you and others who will be gathering, and for this occasion, though sad, to be one that brings glory to our Lord as we consider that any and all of us are only a breath or a heartbeat away from eternity, and “our times are in His hands”.
In His great love, and with thankfulness for being part of your prayer team,
    Dorothy in Peoria
